For absolute beginners it was recommended to pick up skis up to the chin (plus or minus a few centimeters). If the skis are too short, the children would lose their front-rear balance, if the skis are too long, they are difficult to control and it is not possible to teach the snow-plow, side-step-up the hill with parallel sketches, etc.
Your ski tips should reach somewhere between your chin and the root of your nose. Of course, it also depends on the type of skis and skills of the skier.
No, the ski poles are used only after learning the basics of skiing (side-step-up the hill, sliding down, snow-plough, snow-plough turn).

It is important to provide children with anappropriateequipment (as for the size of skis and skiboots). Other wise they would have a tough time during the lessons, we would not beable to teach them necessary skills we want to share, and you would invest money into skiing lessons with a minimum effect.
